Badly

How do you manage screen time for yourself?

I may be a wrinkly but if it’s modern it fascinates me. As soon as mobile phones appeared my fingers started to itch. I needed to know what this was about. Plus I did live in the country having moved from London, where there was a telephone box on every corner, to a place where I had to describe them. My excuse and I’m sticking to it.

Since then I have fully embraced modernity but I have slowed my upgrades down.

Now of course I have the complication of blogging, with the double complication of a phone keyboard, and the fact that my phone learns all my typos so well it thinks they’re real words, and often changes to them for me, helpfully. Not. I just wait a couple of hours then go back and double check for typos. This obviously forces me to use the phone more and is not my fault!

Fruit sometimes isn’t good for you and an Apple a day can give you cramp!

If anyone else struggles with autocrap…I mean auto-text, reading your work out loud helps, you will read what it actually says.

As to screen time. Obviously I try very hard not to use the phone too much. I switch to my tablet when I need a rest. That helps right?

Okay I give up. I manage my screen time by going out!

Throw in the computer and my tv, which is currently allowing me to pretend that Matthew Perry, and everything he stood for, is still with us, and my screen time may not be good, I kinda enjoy my life this way sooo…better than doing things that stress me, like housework.

There you are, what you love is good for your mental health! I knew I’d work out why this is a good thing! Plus Friends is funny and that’s also good for you. It just never gets old. Laughter is the best medicine!

Just checking

I do have one question though…we are talking about technology and I shouldn’t be talking about car journeys?

You realise how much technology has got hold of us when you don’t read this question and think ‘yeah I drive way too much’, or ‘it’s been ages since I went to the cinema’!

The focus of our entire language has changed, and I do wonder if you’ll know what a baby’s dominant hand will be the moment they’re born as the other once will come pre-shaped as a phone grip and mouse holder.

Modernity, gotta love it…some of it. The handy murderous weapons aren’t such great inventions, as Oppenheimer would tell you. He lived the rest of his life in a state of shock after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We just don’t listen do we?

But my screen time is okay for me 🤣🙄

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
