Can’t Remember

What was your first ever videogame?

Chuckie Egg comes to mind. I was quite good at that. However, MediEvil takes the crown. It was so hilarious we’ve even considered buying a console just to get an old copy and play it.

I was straight in there when gaming came into being, I have to try everything new. I absolutely loved it all. Today’s games are absolute rubbish compared to the cutting edge excitement of 30 years ago. One match three game generates a thousand exact copies.

It’s dull in the extreme. In app costs are insane. Levels are designed so that you can’t get through them without paying. I used to love Fishdom, my team and I became suspicious at one point and checked back on the internet, some levels had had 20 moves removed, or more. What was extra hard was now an ‘ordinary’ level!

The global con

What upsets me in this world now is the level of cheating and deceit all round that takes money from people who can’t afford it. I know it’s a choice to pay when it comes to games, but have you ever asked why, when the coffee crop fails and the price of coffee and chocolate go up, they never go down again? You do get ‘deals’ though. It’s called price gouging.

In the UK we pay for petrol, then the government put Value Added Tax on top, then they tax the lot.

The gaming industry has just joined the cesspit.

Obviously, out there, there are decent companies doing the decent thing, there always have been and always will be. People working for charities on a volunteer basis are a perfect example. But anything government and owned by billionaires is definitely part of the wider problem.

When gaming isn’t gaming, when the true game is making millions, you know one thing: go back to the times of giving your kids a bat and a ball and send them out to play with other children. When they’re old enough of course. Get them to socialise with a screen. You can always track them on their phones nowadays.

You’ll save their eyesight, help them avoid isolation, teach them rules via games, and encourage teamwork. What’s not to love?

Boy the games my mates and I had such fun with when I was young! I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. Nor would I want to be much younger than I am!

Best Love

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
