How do you write what people actually want to read?

I guess a writer has two choices, write what comes to them or write what sells. Fifty Shades of Grey/Orange/Blue/Green…Mission Absolutely Impossible and Definitely the Last. Probably. Almost certainly.
You get the point, everything has been done before. Often something wildly popular sprouts copycats like weeds in a garden.
You may say that novelists, playwrights, and screen writers have it easy, put the six available plots in a blender and then try to find a unique ingredient. However, they too have to find a way to make their stories credible and relatable.
For a self-help writer that is a key question, we’re trying to find our way through the human experience and offer ideas and inspiration for a huge mess of hurt and challenges.
Probably the easiest answer to this is you pray, guess, and hope. At the end of the day writers can only write with the muse and trust the universe.
I don’t pretend to know that answer. My book has a handful of huge fans, and has also been largely ignored. I’ve settled with ‘at least I’ve done some good’, and let it go. I obviously knew what a few wanted, and maybe the many found it somewhere else.
There you go! Ideas but no answers. Unless you’re an inspirational writer, that is. Tune in, you get the text, the questions, the answers, the meaning, and the point, all at once!
