Same as Usual with a Twist

What is your favorite quote?

I love this one because it’s true. We all need to take control of our thoughts and not let our minds run amok. It doesn’t feel that we choose to be unhappy, anxious, stressed, angry, depressed, but unless these things are clinical or driven by a traumatic life event, we do choose it.

You might think I’m being tough, but I’ve personally learned this to be true. That control of the mind is possible, just by choosing to feel good and aligning your thoughts to that outcome. Dismissing anything that doesn’t fit. Sounds simple? Is simple. Takes practice. Can be done.

I’m not resting on any laurels here, I truly learned the hard way, and it’s work in progress but there is progress.

Following on from quote one, becoming a dancing star is a very good use for hurt, anger, fear, and chaos.

Again, I’ve left my laurels somewhere, so I’ll just have to be human and admit that I messed up but good has come of it.

However, when people or the past hurt you, you truly do only have two choices: keep it or let it go. To keep it only poisons you, you effectively build on what happened. What’s worse you recreate it.

We only remember 25% of the past accurately, we fill in the gaps.

In certain circumstances, such as violence and abuse, the memories are etched into our minds. Let’s not be glib about this. But ordinary upsets are often simply a child’s understand up against an adult’s deeper understanding of life.

That is not to say the adult was right, but viewed in that way, taking into consideration that adults were right in my day and age, I see how the mess happened and I view it more gently. Especially as my mum and dad told me that they often felt wrong but didn’t know what to do. Apparently there was no manual in my nappy when I was born. 🤣

Don’t base who you are on misunderstandings or on the words and actions of others who may just have been struggling themselves.

Which brings us to: just forget it! Which is glib on stilts. Stupid statement. You cannot erase a memory, you deal with it. You control it. Horrible as it sounds it is a fact it takes a severe brain illness or injury to erase memory so…

Deb Hawken – “Who am I, Where am I, What is this place?” Available on Amazon.

Take that to heart and seek to take control of the memories, and bat the bad ones away if they bounce back.

I will leave you with something my Frister Katrina taught me:

She said that her dad taught her that if you point the finger at another person, think about where the other three fingers are pointing. That’s stayed with me.

As such I’m not being glib, we’re all in this together, and I’m far from innocent in my life.

We are the creators, much as we’d like to blame the past and everyone who annoys us. Don’t fear that power, take it and rock it! BE the creator of your own dreams, choose your own mindset, what memories and ideas you will focus on, and what you won’t. You have that power.

Best love

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
