Thrilling!

Hit 5,000 steps today and drop your achievement here — we’re cheering you on!

For a start we’re tougher in the UK, we have to do 10,000.

Secondly, I don’t care. 10,000 steps is one thing, good for movement and mobility, but if they don’t particularly get the heart rate up they’re of limited use. Good but not great. Healthy but not that healthy.

Plus if those 10,000 steps are done running around at work, bored witless, furious with your boss, not in the fresh air, the stress will outweigh the effort.

It’s good to be fit and mobile, but nothing is more important than feeling good. Stress is a far worse enemy than sitting too much. If you’re tense your movement isn’t as effective. A relaxed, stretched, body moves more effectively.

I once read that exercise you hate is bad for you. I don’t enjoy walking where I live, and although my body appreciates the movement, I feel worse for going out. So it’s a win/lose.

A happy mind creates the right endorphins for a healthy body. Start there, find exercise that you love. Do that. Yoga doesn’t include that many steps but it’s so good for you.

Your body needs to be happy too. Full to the brim with giggles.

Relaxed mind, relaxed body, avoid idiots, less cortisol! Win/win.

My favourite exercise? Martial Arts. I hate sweating, but I would come home dripping with sweat and perfectly happy. It was good for me.

It strengthened my body, improved my flexibility, and gave me a strong sense of self confidence. I had attempted the absolutely impossible and achieved it. I got a black belt. That was a true win/win/win.

Fitness – confidence – flexibility.

Best love

I used to use it to confuse people. They couldn’t quite believe that a little middle aged lady might actually have a black belt. True je ne said quois – as the French say so beautifully.

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
