Badminton Plus Plus Plus

What is your favorite hobby or pastime?

There are too many wonderful things to do in life for there to be just one favourite thing, and we should all do our utmost to feel and be that way.

Firstly we weren’t born to struggle – who actually invented money, Government, and work? The latter being a form of paid slavery.

We will take the best days of the best years of your life, and pay the majority of you somewhere between less than enough and just enough to get by. But if the really wealthy look a bit stressed we will give them more.

You’ll see your children grow up between 6 and 8 pm weekdays, and between housework and food shopping at weekends. You’ll work full time and visit food banks because not one of those in charge is capable of managing the current climate. Heaven forefend they’d have the sense to get together and work out a reset of our economics. Then we will tax you then tax you on the tax.

Thus we struggle. That’s where a question like this is good because we might all get ideas of how we can build in some excitement to mitigate politics.

All you can do in life is try to add in as much good as you can. It doesn’t have to be expensive A walk. Nature. Beaches and sea. A crazy ball game in a park. Anything that helps.

Here’s my list – exercise

The only two forms of exercise I love are Martial Arts and Badminton.

I did Martial Arts in my 30s and 40s, got to black belt through sheer pigheaded determination and a lot of prayer and begging God that I’d be good and not hit people if He helped me.

Truthfully it was a miracle. I’m small, not muscly, not strong, not flexible, and certainly not scary. I’m the anti Bruce Lee. I just totally unexpectedly loved it. I loved the culture, the tenets: courtesy; integrity; perseverance; self control; indomitable spirit. Those were the things I believed in and needed.

I left over ten years ago, but those tenets never left me.

Forget the films, it’s not about fighting, you learn handy techniques but like anything if you don’t use it regularly don’t think you’re Bruce Lee. Be wise. In truth a black belt has 6 seconds to make a difference. Then the attacker knows you’re ‘dangerous’ and you’re in more trouble. I’m grateful for, but realistic about, those six seconds.

Badminton

Took it up again in my 60’s. Love it. and it’s doable at any age if you’re mobile. You can play as gently or energetically as you wish. You don’t have to be strong, it’s technique not strength. If you move correctly and stay central you can reach most of the courst in a couple of steps.

Theatre

In used to write plays and I love the theatre. I love the creativity behind it; particularly the writing. We can do so many whizzy special effects nowadays, but without that idea, that script, those lyrics, that music, the performances, it’s just pretty.

We stopped going years ago, and I’ve just thought ‘no more of not doing things’. We’ve been three times in the last three months and we have the great Izzard next month.

Reading

I love books but you don’t have to. You can read holiday brochures, what’s on nearby, theatre programmes, summer events. But nothing takes you out of a mundane moment like a book. Read about the right hobby and you just might read yourself into your own business.

Seeking inspiration

Normally I offer it, but this time I’m going to check out the other replies to see what I’m missing.

I know that money is an issue nowadays, but you can buy some cheap rackets and shuttlecocks, and play in a park without a net. Whomever puts the shuttle on the floor wins the point. Don’t worry about in and out when you have no lines.

Let’s all think about how we can have more fun, not why we can’t. We’ve got to do something in this challenging world.

Yet another good question.

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
