Can’t Trust Politicians

I play a game on my tablet that’s very popular. When I first started playing 2 years ago I got up to level 4000 quite quickly without spending any money. I took a break and came back to it on another device, and to say they’ve changed it is the understatement of the year.

You can look up how to beat a level on YouTube, and see that you have 23 moves to do it, but you’re looking at only 9. In our team we also know that we’re going to struggle over the weekend when the team tournament is on, and will very rarely get the team prizes. We’re watching them make it more and more difficult. For money.

Putting that simple, unimportant example aside, there are more murder on our streets in a week than we in the UK were used to seeing in a year when I was a young woman. A murder has gone from truly shocking news to ‘oh Lord, not another one’. This isn’t to say that I’m emotionally detached, far from it, my heart goes out to their family and friends, it’s just that it’s almost become an horrific norm.

An even simpler example would be that we went to see a show in central Birmingham last week, my friend and I waited outside the car park for my husband to bring the car down, it was a lovely evening. He was over 1/2 an hour. For at least ten minutes he couldn’t pull out of the space. Two gentlemen nearly came to blows because they were caught in the situation, and there were constant sounds of car horns from the car park.

Add to that the number of rapes and assaults we hear about, children being killed by guns, parents seemingly murdering their child at least once a week. Plus the constant stories of police officers committing crimes.

Then we have companies cheating us, making huge profits in times of hardship. Water companies dispensing huge amounts of sewerage into our rivers and seas. The world and its brother on strike. Ill treatment of animals. Lack of care for the elderly. People in social housing living with rats and fallen ceilings, unable to cook because the electricity is switched off as there is 4” of water on the floor and it’s pouring from the electrical sockets. Landlords charging people a fortune to live in hovels, and councils not taking action.

I could go on, but you get the picture. The point though is that it’s about time we stopped blaming our politicians for everything and started looking at ourselves, because they’re certainly not the only ones failing to live to high standards, but they don’t carry guns, sell drugs, kill their children, or lie and cheat more than many a member of the public.

If we want the world to change, we as a race have to change. Our nightly news shows that clearly.
