Playing Favourites! 😱

Share a photo of your pet and tell us one thing that makes them uniquely them.

Hito

Of all our cats he is the most unique. Not the most loved, we love(d) each and every one dearly. I often thank God for all the beauty and love they have brought into our lives.

One of the reasons I stress that inclusive love is because I was the child pushed to one side. No fault of my brother and it certainly did him no good. I understand now I’m older that it wasn’t intentional, my brother had childhood asthma and it was terrifying. It made my parents extra protective.

Having had cats that were unwell I know only too well why your focus goes to the one in trouble. But on a day-to-day basis I have always made sure that I fuss every cat and tell them I love them.

I understand through them that it is possible to feel more connected to one being without loving them one ounce more than the others. I understand now that my parents were more protective of Neil, not more loving.

You don’t understand until you know and can relate.

It felt important to write that part šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø.

So one thing?!

Hardly. He is utterly unique. He is cat number ten of 14. We have never had anything like him. He is so intelligent, wildly manipulative (those eyes get what they want), completely stubborn, and makes it hard to be cross with him because he’s utterly adorable. So what makes him that way?

  • He connects eye to eye which no other cat has done or does.
  • He talks to you in little chirrups, mutters, and the odd miaow in several different tones. They all mean something and we know exactly what they mean. He is very clear.
  • He will tap you with a paw, and if you ignore him out comes the claw. He doesn’t scratch, he just hooks it in to your clothes and starts tugging. His eyes say ā€œI’m not going to stop and we don’t want to rip anything do we?ā€
  • He’s determined, stubborn, and works adorable so well he gets everything he wants. He rewards you with a lot of love.
  • He can guilt trip you like no one I’ve ever known. Without being able to say a word he can make you feel like Atilla the Hun just using his eyes and the odd soft but slightly broken miaow.
  • He’s incredibly intelligent and a master of manipulation.
  • Most of all he’s taken on four tiny, naughty kittens and loved and watched over them. He doesn’t blink when someone new turns up. Never lifts a paw to them until they’re adults, when a gentle nip of the fur at the back of their necks is enough to say ā€œstopā€.
  • Most importantly he is the kindest soul.

I love my cats because their capacity to love new incomers, and us, is off the charts.

ā€˜Crazy’ animal people will often tell you that they like animals because they’re far kinder than many humans.

I’ll tell you that when humans can match that kind of unconditional love and acceptance I might put us right up there with animals.

I know we have that, but I’m still not sure when I’m muttering about someone or something that I’m quite their equal. Although of course, I don’t know what they’re actually thinking! šŸ¤£šŸ˜»šŸ’–

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
