Just Let the Past go

That’s not how you let something go! Fun though it might be.

When people say just let go of the past, my first thought is: Okay then hand it to me and I’ll let it go!

No one can do that can they? Yet people trot that old cliché out time and time again if you happen to be struggling with the past.

It may genuinely be the only thing we know how to say, genuinely meant to be helpful, but it simply isn’t something you can do. It exists inside you, it exists in your memories, it’s ingrained in your behaviour.

And you’ve done nothing wrong!

You’re not holding on to anything. It’s real and a part of you. What would you cut out or remove to let it go?

We all try to forget it, but we can’t, and things will trigger us.

There is an answer.

Living in the now?

Again a very sensible saying. Except for the fact the past is in there and you can’t forget it, it will be triggered. Fact. It’s subconscious. Fact it will affect the now, which also means it will affect your future.

The answer is:

Living in the future!

Start visualising the person you want to be in great detail. Do not focus on the past at all. See yourself happy, successful, carefree, joyous, not hampered by any past training or experience

Become a person who didn’t experience your past.

Think about where it affects you and how, then imagine how you would behave, how you would speak, how you would act if you were a brand new human.

Be that person.

Best love

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
