Turnaround

If you could permanently ban a word from general usage, which one would it be? Why?

It wouldn’t be ‘turnaround’ I’ve just turned the question around.

In life humans often focus on what they don’t want rather than what they do. It’s the things I do want that are far more important to me; especially the attitudes on this poster.

People who believe in human rights, especially the right to respect for all, are often called Woke. Yet to me personally, to question the fact that any human deserves these things unconditionally, is to literally question God. Animals and the natural world deserve them too.

I’ve said before that I was raised in a tolerant household. It was my father that first gave me the idea that if I believed in God and that He created everything, then I must accept that God does not make mistakes. If he wanted different genders and skin colours, then that is what He wanted and it wasn’t for us to question.

My father was not particularly religious, he was respectful of all religions, but I did attend church and he hit exactly the right note with me. I wasn’t being in any way prejudiced at the time, I had just discovered that men could love men and women could love women, and I was confused. We were very naive at 16 in my day-and-age and I had never heard of such a thing. Mum and dad both had, they had gay friends, and my mothers Great Uncle was part of the Quentin Crisp set in the 1920’s.

A deliberate development

Notwithstanding that excellent teaching, there was a lot about my upbringing that was faulty, but where the wheels came off was when my beloved aunt and uncle came back into the family, and years later we realised how much they’d changed. I adored them, they were a strong influence, and it wasn’t a good one. When I realised I was shocked to the core that I could have picked up on that. It was literally the best thing that ever happened to me.

Knowing who you don’t want to be is a very clear guideline towards who you do want to be. I am that person. Flawed, anxious still sometimes, forgets things (such as ordering a tea then putting the milk in my husband’s black coffee, sipping it, having to go and confess to the barista and buy him another drink), but I learned from the world and there is a lot of great teaching out there. I’m quite happy with this blueprint most of the time, but never think you can’t improve, that’s the doorway to the dark side.

If you want something to change

You have to be both the something and the change. Sadly I’ve seen too many people who consider themselves to be spiritual, from vicars to those who follow the spiritual field, not to realise that you need to watch your thoughts, feelings, and emotions and be very aware when you’re falling outside your beliefs.

You cannot say ‘love light and horrible hat’. You cannot say ‘God loves you but I think you’re an idiot’. You cannot say that women are lesser beings yet use them for your needs’. God wouldn’t and you can’t. You are one thing or you are the other, with occasional wobbles that bring you up short with timely reminders.

You are the change from, or the continuation of, all that wrecks our various societies.

If you think you’re something good then you need to ensure that you’re honest with yourself and authentic in your words and actions.

So that word you asked for…

There are so many I would ban that it was easier to go with what I feel ought to be. Also, actually banning them is something I can’t do.

You’re not allowed to start a war would have had no effect on a warmonger who needs lots of land and money to feel powerful.

You have to be kind to those who are different to you would have no effect on a determined bigot.

You don’t need all the money in the world clearly has limited effect on those chasing their first trillion. Some are very altruistic, it is true, but that’s still too much money in one pocket. More than they could spend in 7 lifetimes, they could try of course but I don’t you’d be born with your bank account numbers in your head when you were reincarnated. Nor would the people who had all your money now be open to the idea of giving it back.

What we can always do is be the change we want to see. Wide awake to the issues facing this world, and determined to be part of the solution. Be proudly Woke, and champion everything that’s good – make the words above manifest in this world.

And never forget that the Woke have a great leader.

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
