Grand Canyon

Think back on your most memorable road trip.

That thin strip of water is the mighty Colorado

We traveled from Sedona in Arizona for two hours to reach the Grand Canyon. When we got there we asked where it was. From our viewpoint in the car park there was nothing.

Yes we knew canyons were deep, but we didn’t expect to turn up to something so grand and see nothing at all!

Our coach driver told us to go up to the top of the car park and look over the small wall. We did, and that’s the moment when time stopped.

It almost defies description, it’s an immense force of nature with what looks like a tiny stream at the bottom, otherwise known as the mighty Colorado River. The only river in the world with a set of rapids graded at 8, 6 is normally the highest rating for rapids. We could actually see them from where we stood.

In honesty I don’t have the words to do it justice. At our point on the South Rim it was ten miles wide. there was a tiny stick thing at the other side, which turned out to be a four story tower that we also visited.

Being there is like touching God. Coming from suburbia it opens your eyes to the sheer magnificence of this planet in ways a semi-detached house or manicured park never will.

It humbles you and inspires you at the same time. It enthrals you and never lets you go. You’re changed by being there.

A few weeks after I got back a Scots comedian called Billy Connolly had a programme on about his road trip along Route 66. He was stopping at the Grand Canyon in this particular episode and I was so excited for Tony to see it.

Billy is extremely eloquent and funny. He stopped his motorbike, got off, walked a few paces and halted. He just said “Oh”. Quietly.

They panned a camera around the Canyon but Billy said there wasn’t much point because nothing could do it justice. I agree.

It’s the most real thing I’ve ever seen. It has a huge place in my heart, and I feel utterly privileged to have seen it.

Best love

Do try and see at least one example of the magnificence of nature if you can, there are so many dotted arid this world of ours.

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
