What’s your favorite cartoon?

I don’t know if the Road Runner is technically an Emu, but I dislike the way GIFs endlessly repeat. Drives me nuts, so I chose an Emu.
So yes, that’s my favourite cartoon. A question I answered at least a year ago, so we know that when something is important I remain loyal.
Why not Wile E Coyote though? Firstly I wrote about him last time, but secondly it’s often the straight guy that doesn’t get the credit in really good comedy.

In the UK that was Ernie Wise to Eric Morecambe. For those who may not know of them they were famous in the 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s.
Eric was intensely funny, Ernie was the perfect straight man. Ernie was known as the one with the short, fat, hairy legs, which was perfectly okay in those days. Eric was the one everyone saw, and yet you knew, and so did he, that without Ernie he was half as good. You can see that in the picture.
They were dear friends, when Eric had his heart attack Ernie was there. He supported Eric’s family, and they toned down their act to ensure that Eric could cope.
If you can find it anywhere, try watching Morecambe and Wise’s breakfast sketch. Language will not be a barrier, they don’t say a word. But the body language, comic skill, and the timing has to be seen to be believed.

Andre Previn, seen here, or Andrew Preview as Eric called him, was one of our foremost classical conductors and pianists. In this sketch he is supposed to be conducting Eric who is playing a piano sonata. Of course Eric can’t play the piano, but his loyal friend Ernie believes that he can with all his heart.
Andre Previn was brilliant. As you may guess, after a while all the big names including top singers, actors, newsreaders, and conductors, were praying for an invite the Morecambe and Wise show, especially the Christmas show.
This sketch gave me a lot though, it helped me to explain my spiritual work and why it is so difficult for me to explain.
In the sketch Previn says that Eric is not playing the right notes. He gently takes Previn by the throat, lifts him up to be eye-to-eye, and utters the immortal “I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order”.
One day someone sent me a testimonial after I’d done a reading for them, and I was so thrilled:
Deb Hawken is the Eric Morecambe
of the spiritual field, she does all
the expected things, but not
necessarily in the expected order.
I have never been so delighted with anything as that testimonial.
The Road Runner and Ernie Wise
So neither were the flashy star, yet imagine Wile E Coyote without the Road Runner, or Eric Morecambe without Ernie Wise, you just can’t.
So always remember, if you don’t do great things, if your blog doesn’t go viral, if your dreams don’t come true, if you’re not the best of the best, you have still made a difference.
Maybe someone somewhere succeeded because of you. Maybe someone pulled themself out of a black hole because of one line you wrote. Maybe someone gave a friend or family member hope by pointing them at your blog.
Here’s to the support crew.
Best love
