Being Unhappy

What could you do less of?

The Battle for Happy

Happy is a great idea
In theory
In practice
Try telling my mind that

We discuss it often
and always come to the same conclusion
The ultimate problem is
Other people

Past people
Present people
Family people
Work people
Hobby people
All the people

Of course you can’t just
blame everyone everywhere
for everything
Because in every place
you become unhappy
you are present

We all want to be happy
but we spend too much time
fighting to make unhappy happy
Instead of taking a deep breath
and running a mile

People will say
“but you can’t quit - that’s giving up!”
If you don’t give up being unhappy
then you will never have room
for happy

So in order not to be a quitter
you must dedicate your life
to making those who are unkind to you
like you?
It almost never works

What is the answer?
It’s simple
Don’t believe that unhappy is a thing
Believe it’s a message
You don’t belong here
These aren’t your people
This isn’t your tribe
There are other jobs

Don’t shoot the messenger
for being impractical
and not understanding determination
Listen
Hear the truth you should be able to feel
And take action

Then your unhappy will go
leaving a space for happy
Just make sure you’ve broken the pattern
you and your mind
and only let the best thoughts
leading to the best actions
in

Deb Hawken - 2025

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
