Paws for Thought

What is good about having a pet?

Honestly we haven’t upset him!

For me my cats have given me somewhere to focus the immense amount of love I have inside me to give.

My personal life experience has taught me that sometimes being loved is a burden for a person, because they feel they have to return that love and really they want to get on with their life and what they need to do.

I have learned to hold back with people and set them free. Whereas with the cats I can just love them. I’m profoundly grateful to have had that in my life because love heals and uplifts.

I felt that my family did not know how to love. It was sad to watch. Hubby worked for a long time as a director, so I was a corporate widow. You can’t shower love on someone who is either at work or asleep in a heap on the sofa. They don’t tend to notice.

I used to describe myself as a person who had a box of the most brilliant gifts and they were all free, but I couldn’t even give them away. Many people actually don’t trust love even though they crave it. Odd.

An amazing lesson

It’s taught me so much about how to love. How to appreciate the beauty of nature. The moon and stars. Wildlife, and butterflies and bees.

Having to shift my focus from humans into the natural world opened up a whole new way of being, and a deep positive response inside me.

Loving animals and nature is free and easy. Appreciating the seasons and the elements is just a matter of watching, feeling and experiencing.

There is no pressure on you to dress nicely, have immaculate hair, or be full of joy and laughter, or super interesting and amusing. You can quietly just absorb beauty and let your love shine back at the world.

Because the people around me couldn’t love I got my first two cats, 41 years ago this coming Tuesday. Since then I have homed 12 more beautiful souls, and they given me riches beyond measure. Because of them I have been able to love freely and safely, and appreciate the things that are important.

When no human was there, they were. They taught me to love unconditionally, and that’s an incredible blessing to have.

Everything is good about having pets. Even when they’re being little monkeys!

They have been my loving lights guiding me through the minefield of human emotion in its unending complexity.

Best love

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
