You’re Kidding, Right?

In what ways does hard work make you feel fulfilled?

Me recovering from housework

I come from the school of thought often attributed to Confucius “If you do the work you love you’ll never work a day in your life”.

As such anything approaching hard work doesn’t interest me at all.

I get things done around the house of course, one has to, and that’s when it becomes hard work. I was born to have servants to be honest, although I hate that word.

Except I wasn’t born with the means to have highly valued help. Had I been they could have counted on a family holiday at my expense twice a year, just out of sheer gratitude.

So I do my own housework, spend two hours swearing at the vacuum cleaner for getting caught as often as it possibly can and dragging me backwards, falling over the lead, and generally ruining my mood.

Yes it’s nice to have a clean house, but fulfilled? It will need doing again within days, so no.

I’m also not allowed to do heavy lifting in the garden as the last time I tried that I dropped a paving stone on my foot. No serious damage thankfully, although one formerly straight toe has a right kink, but my husband’s nerves can’t take it. He definitely has a greater sense of mental wellbeing if I don’t attempt these things.

“Oh rats” followed by “Now what have you done?” are regularly heard in our house. Once followed by “can you grab a cloth the cat’s covered in custard!”

If I don’t enjoy it I get a great sense of satisfaction from not having to do it.

Best love

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
