The Time Before Bed

What are you doing this evening?

The time before bed
is spent on the couch
surfing hundreds of channels
that all offer nowt

When I were a young gal
I never once thought
that my life would be spent
on the couch doing nought

I was going to travel
I was going to live
I had a thousand ideas
and so much to give

I had plenty of time
but time is a thief
it speeds up each year
beyond every belief

So the time that I had
to become all exciting
was whittered away
at a speed that was frightening

Now hear me I beg you
cherish your dreams
don’t ever trust time
it is not what it seems

Get outside your front door
and make a real life
Otherwise it’s just tele
and soap opera strife!

I don’t watch soap operas

This is true. I used to spend my evenings running an amateur dramatic group. I wrote plays, produced plays, and loved working with the team.

Then my life changed and I let it change me. The last 35 years has gone so fast and I never had the energy to catch up with it, overtake it, and find myself again.

So my evenings are spent sofa surfing, quite contentedly, because even when life doesn’t work out as you thought it would, it doesn’t mean it works out badly!

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page.
