What do you think gets better with age?

As you can see, the opinions of the un-woke don’t bother me. Go back thirty years and I’d probably have been too scared to say that in case people didn’t like me or were unkind.
Once you’ve been through the mill a few times you tend to relax more. Smiling gently at the problems of youth, recalling how much better you managed some things in middle age, and hoping that when you’re upper middle age you might do even better. Given a bit of luck and a following wind.
It is actually a bit of a shock to realise that I’m in an age bracket that in my youth would have been deemed very old.
Throughout my life people have said “65, that’s a good age. 70, that’s a good age, now we’re up to 85/90”. We are, of course, living longer.
So I’ve gone from being three years past the first good age, and still feeling like a young person. My mother always said that you only ever feel 30, and she’s right. My 98 1/2 year old grandmother said the same.
Apparently the old women in the mirror caught them both by surprise.
I take refuge in my spiritual beliefs though, that our energy is as old as the universe, we may have been incarnating for at least 10,000 years, so am I really going to worry about 68? It’s a refreshing way to look at it.
If you approach ageing with the gratitude to be here, an awareness of the beauty of this world, a passion for the animal and insect kingdoms, a deep love of animals, and recognising that there really are more amazing people in this world than otherwise, you will find it to be great fun.
Three bits of advice though:
- Don’t let work rule your life.
- Family, friends, and pets are the most important thing in your life, any time you miss with them you don’t get back.
- Don’t watch the news too much at the moment, that will age you while you’re watching it.
As to me, do I get better with age? If practising ageing rebellion is better then definitely. I didn’t dare rebel as a young woman; it’s my turn. It’s fun!
Best love as always
