Mind First

How do you practice self-care?

Mind is King

I think therefore I am

René Descartes

This is Descarte’s First Principal, and it’s critical.

For centuries humans have talked about the mind without fully understanding it. The experts know, but a lot of that doesn’t filter down to us ordinary mortals.

Many of us try The Law of Attraction, with varying degrees of success, or otherwise. It’s worth noting that there are 12 Universal Laws that work together. Which explains part of it, but not all.

Paying attention

It’s not often that I get the sensation of an inanimate object seeking my attention, but it does happen.

You look at a book and it shines at you from a bookshelf, you normally wouldn’t read it but the way it brought your attention to it, you buy it, and it’s exactly what you need. That happened to me three weeks ago.

I went to a large shopping centre, normally do downstairs then upstairs, wasn’t shopping for books. Instead I went upstairs first, and as I walked around the corner the book shop seemed to shine brighter for a second. It was weird, almost as if it took a step forward and said ‘come in’. So I went in.

Started browsing novels and out of the corner of my eye I saw a white book, again it seemed to be shining brighter than the books around it.

I picked it up to browse, opened it at a random page and read “It’s important never to lose faith in the self.” That answered one of the questions I’d been pondering “Why can’t I straighten my head out?”

I used to trust myself implicitly, and I’d stopped.

That’s fundamental.

I opened the book again at a different page, and it repeated the message. I walked out without the book feeling that I’d received the information I needed. Halfway through a cup of coffee I knew I had to go back and buy it, and I’m so glad I did.

Clueless

We all know we have a mind, even if we feel we’ve lost it we know we definitely have one somewhere. We all know we have a subconscious mind, which explains why sometimes we don’t act in our best interests based on past programming.

Now I’m no expert on the mind, and I’m sure that many of you know this, but I didn’t. I thought in terms that ‘life’ programmed your subconscious mind. Actually it’s your conscious mind that does it.

The difference is subtle, yes things happen to you, yes people say things to you, either good or bad, but it’s your conscious mind that stores them for you in the subconscious. Dwells on them.

Once I realised this I found that I was catching negative thoughts about myself and life almost instantly and changing them. Today I said to myself that I hated housework. Then I said “that’s a stupid thing to hate when the house feels so much nicer, and in fact you don’t hate it.”

There was a real sense that I’d stopped myself storing ideas that would make housework even harder in the future. A simple but important example.

I obviously can’t go into everything in the book, but I will add a photograph of the cover below.

What I can say is – and this is the most important thing:

Our subconscious mind is our inner healer, it knows exactly how to keep our bodies and minds healthy.

The author posits that it’s our soul, and I can see that. However, it’s also very similar to the law of attraction:

It doesn’t make decisions, it acts based on what it’s told in the way it’s told it.

Which means if you say that money doesn’t come to you, then it won’t come. The good news is that if you develop a mindset that money comes easily to you, the subconscious will do exactly as it’s told.

Which makes understanding it fundamentally important when it comes to having a happy life.

I’ll leave you with one thing he suggested, so far, that I’m doing, and it’s easy. Before you go to sleep repeat several times”

Freedom, happiness, and perfect health

And mean it. I added in ‘abundance in all good things’. Instead of running back through the day, go to sleep on those positive thoughts.

So, I haven’t got far with the book, but this blog title seemed to beg me to share this with you in case it might help. Image of book cover below.

Best love as always

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
