What do you do to be involved in the community?

It’s not that I don’t care, I care a lot, but my time is dedicated to helping people to step into their own power and live their lives in a way that works for them.
I do this through my writing, including these blogs, my groups, and social media.
This way of working suits me. I don’t really enjoy working with voluntary groups as there’s always politics. I don’t mind politics with a capital P, but the kind of machinations you get in many groups just detract from what you’re trying to achieve.
I once wrote the script for a musical about Houdini. I loved the guy who wrote the music, he was incredibly talented, but throughout the process it was made clear that he and the group all felt I was a step below them. Whereas I’d produced plays, and had my work staged successfully before. I dislike that kind of thinking, if you’re going to team up then work together respectfully and have fun.
What really finished me was meeting the guy who wrote the script for my colleague’s first musical on the night of our dress rehearsal. He quietly said to me “I hope you’re not expecting anything to come of this; he fears success and he’s going to bury it like he did the one we worked on.” He did exactly that.
I’ve successfully led many teams, and the feedback has always been that I allow others to do their job, supporting wherever necessary; keeping the plan in my head and us on track. I don’t need to lead, I facilitate and support.
I like people, I like them to be happy around me. In my work I am able to achieve that because I quietly set the tone, and clearly set the attitude:
Human beings, working together, doing their best, accepting each others’ humanity.
We don’t need primadonnas, we need support, encouragement, and people on our side. I’ve been blessed to attract incredible people who think exactly the same way. We’ve all been hurt and we want to be a force for good.
So that’s why I stay quiet, maintain my serenity like the girl on the swing, and work where I can set the tone of mutual respect and encouragement.
I would make a great primadonna though…I’d be so theatrically over the top it would be the performance of a lifetime!
I can’t waft all glamorously I’m a bit clumsy. However, I’m off to practice just in case I ever decide to be gorgeously glorious!
Best love
