What books do you want to read?

The reason I don’t visit libraries is that they induce a sense of panic. All those books? Will I choose the best ones? What if I miss the very best?
I used to be able to get my immediate wish list down to about ten, but then I could only have three! That’s the kind of maths no one should have to face in life!
I obviously have a number of books at home, but then I have to choose one to read. By the time I’ve reminded myself what they’re all about I’ve spent about an hour reading back covers and can’t recall which one I thought was the right next choice. Books are exacting lovers!
They tempt you to come close, to take a peek, have a taste, then they firmly close their covers to hide their secrets.
When you do dive in, the world goes away, for a while you can be someone else, somewhere else. Just choose wisely.
You don’t want to be the one who lands up dismembered in a rubbish heap, no one needs that kind of disruption in their life.
Choose your books as you should choose your life, uplifting, intriguing, with just the right amount of romance that reminds you that many a bad marriage was triggered by the beings of teenage romance.
I wonder if Bella has dismissed Edward to the Twilight Zone yet? But apparently vampires are meant to mate for life so probably not.
Has Harry Potter been turned into a toad by a long suffering wife who has forgotten the un-toading spell? Allegedly.
I do think Rose and Jack continued their romance under the sea eventually, the Titanic experience would have to bond you forever.
I hope Sam and Annie are still Sleepless in Seattle in a good way. I think they are.
With a book you can write your own happy ending later. Keep those dreams close.
Did anyone ever tell you that you can write your own happiness in life? You can, and we should.
Otherwise you could be one of those stars from Arthur C Clarke’s short story The Nine Billion Names of God. The last line of which reads:
“Overhead, without any fuss, the stars were going out.”
Create your happiness, be your own light, and don’t let anyone dim your sparkle. Make sure that those close to you know every page of you, they don’t cherry pick the bits they like best, and demoralise you using the bits they like least, don’t let them distort the story of you.
You are the creator and that’s your superpower!
