Debra is the shortened version of Deborah. I’m glad I’m shortened as, as a child I thought the longer version was pronounced De-bore-ah, and I didn’t want to be boring.
It originated from the Prophetess Deborah who was the first female judge. Oddly I was once told by someone who didn’t really like me, that I would have made an excellent Barrister as if the other side threw in a curve ball I would be able to turn that round and make it their fault within 5 seconds.
I am very good at that, if it’s true.
In an odd way though I do share a great deal of character with the biblical Deborah. Does a name carry resonance?
Deborah was some 500 years before my Guide Amos, yet both campaigned for justice, and Amos campaigned for more parity between the wealthy and the poor. It seems that the more things change the more they stay the same. They were doing this in BC and we haven’t evolved.
Again, justice, and the fact that billionaires make me nauseous, and the idea of the first trillionaire turns my stomach, suggests I have the right name, and it’s not surprising that Amos is my BFF with the emphasis on forever.
Meaning
Debra/Deborah/Debora means the bee, and that’s how I see myself.
I collect knowledge and information, ideas and inspiration, to help people live happier more positive lives. I try to pollinate better attitudes.
But just like the bee, I share the pollen and leave it to the plants whether they accept it or not.
I’m not trying to change anyone, just to help, support, encourage, in a world where too many people take their strength from diminishing others.
Making someone else smaller doesn’t make you bigger, it makes you pointless.
What is the point of hurting? Of discouraging? Of diminishing? I can’t see it. Watching someone blossom just because they’ve crossed your path is the highest honour I can imagine. It’s humbling and beautiful and amazing, and all about who they really are. All they needed was someone on their side holding out a hand, not wielding an oar to push them under.
That’s not too much to ask.
I had that person and now I am that person. Paying it forward. It was the only real way to thank Keith.
Plus just like the bee, when you find the best pollen, pollinate. There is enough good for all in this world to thrive.
Find your inner buzz today, and if you can’t, work out what’s silencing it.
With love
Deb xx
