What is your mission?
Our thoughts are our life. When I was at rock bottom a friend became a mentor and saved my sanity by showing me a different way to think about life. That changed the way I lived my life.
I still had years of struggle as other people used to affect me badly with unnecessarily unkind and selfish behaviour. I never understood why people couldn’t just talk to me, I will always listen.
My ex husband was a psychopath, I had no idea. He married me to shut his parents up, as cover for who he really was, then treated me to 13 more years of mental and emotional cruelty, because he didn’t want to be married to me. It looked good on the outside and it was agonising on the inside.
I had to do the hardest thing in the world, build my strength whilst being constantly mentally and emotionally battered down. Thank God that I had Keith and Lesley to help me. I mean that with all my heart.
One of my greatest moments was when my counsellor showed me a scribbled communication between him and my GP.
GP: Severely depressed, query suicidal. Two years to recover.
Counsellor: after my first, discovery session: Six sessions to recover, NOT suicidal.
The GP said he bet £5 he was right, the counsellor won. It might sound a bit wrong for them to be betting on me, but the GP was incredible in getting me the help I needed, and apparently beyond delighted to lose. I didn’t mind them having a laugh at work, I was ex NHS myself and knew how important it was to retain your sense of humour.
That’s a great life lesson right there, never give away your smile for someone else’s misery. It’s your saving grace.
The mission
From social media trolls, to politicians who focus on each other not the issues, through those who think they can pick up a weapon and kill at will. Including those who sell drugs and weapons on our streets, moronic leaders who think power comes through war, to the far right. In fact anyone who is unkind or violent in anyway, I want to do whatever I can to help decent people cope with it.
To cope with work, life, emotions, thoughts.
I don’t bother to try to change the unkind people, some of whom I can’t reach anyway, because they’re not interested. I try to help people like me who just want to be happy, harm nothing and no one, love their partners, kids, family, friends, pets, butterflies, bees, horses, donkeys, the world, the universe, and everything.
I try to offer the way of thinking that saved my sanity. I committed myself to this when no one would help me, to do what I could in any way I could to be there for those who are hurting. For the decent, who don’t realise how much more important they are than the people who think they’re important.
The people who hate themselves if they upset others, yet are hurting most of the time because kindness is not respected as the strength it is.
I don’t expect to change the world but I do expect to do some good, because I promised that I would.
I keep my word.
I have helped people and still am. Remember my name if you’re feeling lost, and don’t expect normal, that won’t happen. Think simple, easy, effective, achievable.
When you change you’ll be amazed what else changes.
