It’s coming up to that time of year again. The post Christmas tradition of working out what you want for the coming year, and making your resolutions. Which will probably be forgotten half way through January.
Familiar story? There is a way to avoid this tradition and make it work for you. Do a vision board. The great thing about a vision board is that you have to stick words and images to, well a board, that define what you want to achieve or receive in the new year, and then you have to hang it on a wall.
It’s a creative way of working out your thinking, especially as it won’t work if you don’t want whatever it is with all your heart, or you feel that you don’t deserve everything that’s good. That’s only one common mistake you can make.
Common mistakes to avoid
- The not realising that you don’t really want what you’re asking for. A good one is to ask for a better job and wonder why it doesn’t turn up. That’s possibly because you don’t like your career and in your heart you want a different career, not job. You get the picture. So be certain you want whatever it is.
- Don’t expect what you have asked for to turn up if you don’t go out there and do something. Manifesting requires action. You may be very lucky and someone will turn up in your life to deliver exactly what you wanted, but if you don’t go out? No point asking for new romance then curling up on the sofa in your jammies and warm socks, with the cat, and sitting there hoping for a year.
- Thinking that things will turn up exactly as your picture on your vision board, something may turn up first that leads you to that. The Supercoach, Michael Neill has twice manifested the home of his dreams, but he worked jolly hard to get both those homes. He actually had pictures of the exact houses on his vision board. He got them by pursuing his dreams and believing in himself. Not because he put the pictures on the board, he focused on what he wanted and gave the universe every chance to deliver.
- What if you want to do New Year’s Resolutions but don’t know what you want? How about ‘abundance in all good, great and wonderful things’, and then follow what your heart calls you to do? As you move forward through the year you can add what that means to your vision board as you work out what it is.
Ultimately though, don’t feel pressured to become resolute in the new year, you can start a new chapter in your life any time you want to, and you may fare better to expend that energy in the spring, when the nights lighten, winter gloom lifts, and the sun delivers the ultimate pick you up!
There is only one rule to success in life, and that is to be happy in whatever you do. A huge amount of money and fame is not a success if ultimately you’re miserable. So when in doubt, be happy. Not only does happy energy achieve more, you may discover that you actually don’t need anything more than that.

P.S. That’s when the good stuff will start rolling in, when you relax, have fun, and enjoy life. That’s the creative energy!
