What’s the hardest decision you’ve ever had to make? Why?
I’m going to step as gently as I can here because this might help someone out there, and I’ll end on what positives I’ve been able to wring out of this.
Out of 9 cats in the Spirit World we have had to put ourselves completely to one side, and help 8 of them to cross the Rainbow Bridge. I’m using deliberately gentle language here.
Did we think we’d ever have the courage? No. Did we hesitate? No. We exhausted every possibility until we were well and truly beaten, but then we knew what we desperately didn’t want to do, but had to for them.
They must come first no matter what we feel. It’s the last demonstration of love you can show them in this life.
That’s the positive point that may help others who have faced this or are facing that potential:
It’s unconditional love, and it tells you a lot about yourself that you’re able to demonstrate it.
The best way I can put it is that when someone tells me I’m not good enough, I know I’m capable of that love, and I hold onto that.
But never forget:
The love link never dies
They and the people you lose become your best memories, you will smile at some point every day just thinking of them. For those who are unsure:
Animals have souls too, and the spirit world is fully inclusive.
I wouldn’t want to go anywhere that wasn’t. That simply couldn’t be heaven.
I owe them everything, including devastating myself to protect them from one more moment of pain.
For those struggling, my heart goes out to you. You will be okay. Nine in Spirit, five with us, there is always more an animal lover can do, and it does help.
And no it doesn’t change what you felt for their predecessors one iota, that’s fixed eternally and grows stronger every day,
You may feel at the moment that it will never be the same, and it won’t, it will be different and beautiful in its own way.
Just like a baby born just after a loss helps to heal the family.
Allow yourself to heal, they will be watching over you. They will also want you to give another pet what you gave them. Animals are more spiritual than most humans give them credit for. They’re creatures of instinct, they have no barriers that tell them they shouldn’t see, hear, or know, whatever they see, hear, and know. They’re eternally connected.
