Depends

How do you celebrate holidays?

I don’t celebrate any holidays. Christmas isn’t the same when your family are gone. It’s also not the same when you’ve done it 67 times. I think it’s also too commercial now.

As a kid I knew how lucky I was to get a present because I’d had to do a protest march when we couldn’t afford dessert. Dad made the protest signs for us. So if I got more than one present from mum and dad! Wow! And I appreciated it.

My best were red wellingtons, a cute umbrella, and a summer that started early that year so I couldn’t wear the boots or use the brolly! I was so annoyed.

One Christmas I asked for a dustpan and brush to help mummy sweep the floors. Which might be why I got three presents that year.

I saw a play once that described how families get into the hands of nasty debt collectors, partly it was caused by the expectations around stuff coming from very young but aware children, and the single parent guilt factor, combined with some dads not paying child support. It’s probably different now, but that was the story of the early 2000s.

There was an authenticity to my childhood that makes me happy to be in my 60s now. I’m sure today’s young people will say the same. Especially if they’re surviving post apocalypse as the Syrian, Ukrainian, and Gaza children practically are right now. Amongst others.

Birthdays have never interested me. There are reasons for that. Halloween leaves me cold, especially as black cats are depicted with witches hats on, which leaves huge numbers of them struggling to find a home.

They are the most wonderful cats you can imagine. Always crazy, loving, too blooming’ adventurous at times (think tall tree and fire brigade rescue), but just wonderful, wonderful creatures. Trust me you’ll fall in love, and in the UK they’re good luck! Get as many as you can!

New year only lasts one day so why bother. You’re back to work the next.

Boy I sound like a cynic. But in fact I can celebrate every day. I love this life. I see so much that makes me stop and go wow! Every time I see the moon I could cry it’s so beautiful.

Rainbows still fascinate me. Sunsets stop me in my tracks. I hear there is also a thing called sunrise but I think that may be fake news. Don’t want to be spreading false rumours.

I celebrate my cats every day. Feeling good. Good hair days. So much.

So celebrations happen most days for me and only needs on one moment of beauty or wonder. One Nini cuddle will do it…

Or a Marcus extravaganza…

Or a Hito huggle on the sofa at night…

Or a piece of chocolate…

Or…

Or…

Or…🤣😻😍🌎🌕🌞

Amazing

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
