What profession do you admire most and why?
I’ve never had a corporate mind, and whilst I’m grateful that business makes the world go round, it also owns people whilst paying them, so there’s no business that I admire.
I respect those in businesses trying to create positive change in the world. As always though, there are always good people working hard to make a difference.
When profit isn’t king, fair pay and reinvestment are, I may change my mind.
I don’t admire our social and health services. They’re failing. Mainly due to red tape and terribly inefficient systems. I feel for those trying their best though. Very much.
I don’t admire the professional side of the Spiritual field, too many issues there, but once again I do admire those trying with sound morals and kind hearts. Of which there are many.
My respect for the people helping charities out is immense, as is my gratitude, but I’ve also observed and learned things that keep my admiration for the organisation at bay. Nothing illegal, more the Boards.
I’d admire scientists if they could put out one clear message and conclusion, but Covid was made far worse by scientists disagreeing. How can the same data provide two truths?
I don’t admire the police because of the criminal faction within the service, but I do admire the officers who stay true to their calling, despite terrible provocation. They are truly courageous.
As are the ambulance service who see so many awful things, but they have their issues. I’m more cross that they should have to be brave now because they get so much abuse from the public. They’re truly only there to help.
The misogyny alone in the fire brigade removes all idea of admiration, yet the courage to run into fires cannot be overstated. I can admire that.
There’s always a however…
You see admiration isn’t for professions, businesses, organisations. It’s for the truly good people in this world. Those trying to be better humans. The genuinely decent. Those who earn your respect by being naturally kind and inclusive.
They exist in all walks of life, they’re the ones who create the means for admiration to exist.
At the moment my admiration goes to everyone who peacefully marches for peace and inclusion. That means without insulting the other side on the way through and starting a slanging match or fight.
As always with humans we can think we’re on the side of the righteous without seeing how thin the line is that protects us from darkness.
As such, my admiration for the events of last week in the UK is off the charts. The anti racist marches. Everyone welcome. Inclusiveness in action. Working together to repair damage. Standing side by side to grieve.
My utter loathing for the people on social media who happily told lies to create chaos would be way higher, and it is stratospheric, were it not for one thing, we now know the size and nature of the racist problem we have to stand against. And as you have seen, we will.
Admire professions? No. The people in them? Yes.
