What makes a teacher great?

The qualities that make any individual good at their job are entirely unique. You can quantify in terms of training, experience, enthusiasm. We all know that some people have a touch of genius about them.
However, you cannot reach a person who refuses to be reached.
Yes there are poor teachers about, some who couldn’t inspire a melon to be a melon, who redefine boring, and could make a lettuce wilt by looking at it; something of a talent in a way.
But in truth, life is 100% about what you personally put into it, how willing you are to learn, and what you do with the knowledge.
I know this because I’ve had years to reflect on what I should have done that I didn’t know I needed to do. I wasn’t raised to do something as wild as think. Mummy and daddy were always right so there was no need to think.
When they decided I needed a job dad called and got me an interview, one I couldn’t have failed. There was no consultation. That doesn’t encourage thinking. A virtual breakdown maybe, but not thinking.
God I was depressed.
So this blog is written in the light that not everyone is dynamic, not every upbringing encourages dynamism and self-actualisation, feelings of self-worth and deserving, and not everyone is blessed with the ability to learn, live independently, and so on.
But if you’re a fortunate person who knows you deserve the best, and you all do. Who has everything they need in order to go out and get it. Even a great teacher will only be as good as the effort you put in and the self-belief you allow yourself.
Remember something else, when you have challenges in life, you may not be able to do certain things. However, as long as you set your own standards of achievement, you can reach them and in reaching them you may go further than you ever dreamed. Everyone has potential and potential is personal.
