Nothing

Which food, when you eat it, instantly transports you to childhood?

I guess the closest I could come would be a beach in Bude in Cornwall, with a huge soft ice cream, that was filled right down to the bottom of the cone, and had cream on top.

Food is about more than eating, it’s exactly as this question suggests, about memories. Those are some of my best.

On one holiday in Cornwall my dad learned of a shop that sold pretty crystal jewellery, so we went. I think back to the kindness of that, something just for the girls. He bought me an Amethyst bracelet.

I didn’t know then that one day crystals would mean so much to me. I do wonder now if at a deeper level dad knew exactly who I was going to turn out to be. I like to think he did.

We’re certainly in good contact 25 years after he died. So he definitely does now. 🤣💖👼

Fabulous Friday

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx

  1. Your reflection on the association of food with cherished memories is beautifully poignant. The image of enjoying a huge, soft ice cream on a beach in Bude, Cornwall, vividly evokes a sense of carefree joy and the simple pleasures of childhood. It’s fascinating how such seemingly small moments, like savoring an ice cream, can hold such profound significance in our memory.

Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt and reflective piece. It beautifully illustrates how food and simple acts of kindness can serve as anchors to our past, helping us to remember and cherish those we hold dear.
