My Guide Amos has taught me the power of visualisation and how it works differently in the human mind from meditation. The basics are simple:
- Meditation is to relax the mind, so even if guided you just relax and go with it.
- Visualisation is a deliberate exercise using your own mind to create something you want, or a safe space to ‘be’.
When we use visualisations he expects us to come back with messages, ideas, or clarity. They’re specifically designed to move us forward in life and our thinking. Moving your thinking forward is the only real way to move your life forward.
If you think as you’ve always thought
You will do what you’ve always done
And you will get what you’ve always got
As such retraining your thinking is key to a happier and more successful life on your own terms.
How we use visualisation
We use it to journey with our guides to different spiritual realms. This has the effect of literally taking us out of our comfort zone and placing us where everything is new. Psychologically you’re out of Earth energy.
The world created for us includes a healing lake, you feel under the weather, go sit at the bottom of the lake and focus on the fish and fauna. Don’t think about healing, just enjoy. Going to that lake sets your intention that you want to heal at some level. It’s a deliberate choice. That sends the right signals.
We have a field of flowers, where all the flowers are in big groups of the same flower. Walk in, choose your colour, sit in amongst the stalks, feel the breeze ripple and vibrate around you, relax, get up and go. It’s great energetic cleanse and shake up.
I could go on, but it may all sound a little weird. However, it’s not. Escaping classic human thoughts and beliefs for a while is very cleansing for the mind. If you ‘see’ something during a visualisation, stop and think about what that means to you, not to anyone else, you. Make sense of it your way. It’s your mind spitting out information that you need. Maybe something has been troubling you and the answer may seem a bit random and weird, but the more you think about it the more you realise that it is the answer you need.
Maybe not the expected answer, but the mind is a powerful tool that follows its own rules, gives out it’s own answers, and the more unexpected it is the more likely to be right – for you.
If you find you can’t meditate, give deliberate visualisation a go:
How?
- Sit comfortably, no need to breathe in any special way.
- Relax as much as you can, if you can’t, don’t worry.
- See what pops into your mind. If it’s a beach somewhere you love, go for a walk. If it’s something unexpected, follow the theme for a while.
- If you meet a being in your visualisation, stop and talk to them.
- As long as you feel better after your visualisation, don’t question it. Only question if something puzzles you, but that shouldn’t happen. It is your mind you’re accessing. Visualisation doesn’t open the mind in the same way meditation does, so everything that happens should be well within your control.
- Set an alarm to bring you back, just in case.
One thing I would say is that if you’re in a negative mindset and have never attempted visualisation before, it’s not the right time to start. The mind can spit out troubles that feel very real when you’re upset. It will do that to express your upset, try to tell you what you need to know. but if you’re inexperienced you could land up upsetting yourself. Always try new things with the mind when you’re in a good mood.
