As I started reading this poem to post it, I realised that it’s about more than romantic love. It’s about life itself. It can be translated to ask questions about race, skin colour, gender, religion, philosophy, attitude, respect, consideration, acceptance.
It is about the entire way we as humans connect with this world, and the animal kingdom, and the planet.
How we see our place on this earth, in the cosmos, in the past, present, and future of humanity, the planet, and all its inhabitants, as well as nature. The ground we call our own, or choose to share. The countries that are ours, or where we make space for others. Whether we want to commit to being a positive force. Hope you enjoy it.
Will We?
I will love you
For a million moons
A thousand suns
And until the stars in the heavens dim and fade
If
You will love me in return
And demonstrate that love
That commitment
This is teamwork
Not a one-way street
We will need
To
Learn to forgive each other
As much as we love each other
To remain silent until we are calm
To carefully collect our thoughts
And deliver them with respect
To listen as well as speak
Because love is
Not
A simple journey
Easy and actionless
It is not just an emotion
Love
Is
Wanting to love
The desire to have love
And share love
And be love
It is
An action to take everyday
A choice to make everyday
And it can be
The making of everyday
But
It is too easy to walk away
Too common to find it too hard
A myth that it happens and just is
Easy doesn’t come into it
Because
Nothing thrives if you don’t nurture it
Nothing exists if you don’t believe in it
Nothing succeeds if you don’t own it
So
Will we
Treat what we have as precious
Nurture it with all our might
Make us the most important thing
Make love something we are
Make loving something we do
Together
Or will we
Become dispirited
Tired
Disenchanted
All because
We fell in love with a human
You can choose to be love
To the ends of the universe
Or you can choose to search
Until hell freezes over
Trying all the time to find something better
Easier
But you will not find love
If you won’t be love
It’s not a free ride
It’s a gift too easily abandoned
Do you really want it
And all it has to offer?
Eternally
