I need your input.
When you write to try to help others it’s not about you, the writer, it’s about them. As such you need to know if you’re being useful.
To be clearer than any politician
(In the UK the words ‘let me be completely clear’ when spoken by a politician usually precede a stunning lack of any clarity whatsoever.)
I want to be crystal clear here!
I am not looking for “Deb you’re the most stunning inspirational writer ever and I’m nominating you for a Pulitzer and the Nobel Peace prize immediately. The latter is the one prize I’d dearly wish to win!
That’s no help at all.
If I should write something you can use, that tweaks your thinking so the you can see a way forward, it would help me very much to know that.
“Deb I liked (this) and I tried it, tweaked it a bit, and it worked (this way).”
I can’t promise I won’t shamelessly add those tweaks into another piece but I will credit you.
Why I’m asking
I know from personal experience that trying to become what others think you ought to be does NOT work.
As a writer I’m writing in the dark, in hopefulness that I’m being truly useful to you.
I’ve said before that when I was literally, totally alone and in trouble, so depressed and scared, I made up my mind that I would be there as much as possible for people feeling the same.
But I need to know what works for you. I’m writing for you.
If at any point you have anything constructive that I can use and build on, I will be grateful and I will work with it. If you want to know more about something, or a deeper dive into anything, I will do that.
Put me in a room with you and I will pick up what you need me to say, rather wonderfully spirit don’t share the problem just “look at that person and say what you feel they need to hear.” It never fails.
I can’t do that as easily over the airwaves, add frankly sharing my opinions doesn’t float my boat anywhere near as nicely as being useful (in a world gone mad).
My dream come true
I’ll leave you with a message written in a card that I’ve kept for years, that I found when tidying my work cupboard yesterday, it is really that dream come true.
“Thank you for being there and listening to me last night when no one else would.”
That’s everything I ever wanted.
Help me to help you, your way. I’ll add the magic.
Onviously I’ve no idea who you are, but you are important to me.
