Boring

Describe a risk you took that you do not regret.

I am so not a risk taker! I’ve lived a fairly boring life, I also suffered from acute anxiety so risk taking would never be my thing.

Unless you consider flying. I used to be a Terra Ferma person, the more firmer my feet were on the ground the less terror. However I had some hypnotherapy and now I love flying. Crashing still scares me but I don’t think about it. 🤣

There are ways in life in which I think differently from others, very differently, and some would freak out about that, but that’s me just living beliefs that were born into me.

Sometimes I do want to conform, for a few seconds, then I return to the magic of life. Being different can be scary in a world of overwhelming right and wrong, filled with endless negative messages about what it means to be alive.

I honestly think the bigger risk in life is to listen to the media, social media, mental health discussions (which are in truth mental illness discussions), the endless talk about all the potential illnesses you can have.

The constant tearing apart of our politics. The disgusting undermining of celebrities. The stupid attacks on the Princess of Wales for editing a photograph of her own children. It’s not as if she tried to make them thinner or better looking.

My guess is that she was so unwell she didn’t have the time or energy to do a photo, and maybe her children were just too damned scared to smile, so she created something.

In a world of trolls and AI, where we can now trust nothing and no one, the greatest risk we have is believing anything. We could see a world leader declare war on what appears to be a live broadcast, when they’re actually sitting in the garden drinking tea, thinking what a lovely day it is. Imagine!

“Erm, mister president, sorry to bother you and all that, but are you aware that you’ve just declared war? I’m thinking not…!”

As the garden chair collapses under an innocent president having a heart attack.

Nope, at the moment the biggest risk we’re all taking is listening to anything, believing anything, watching anything, trusting anything.

Especially if you consider that the leaders of the free world are actively contemplating a president who incited a riot that led to a terrible insult to the American way of life, the deaths of 5 people, injuries to others, and made a mockery of democracy.

Trust no one – it may not be them. Trust nothing you don’t hear or see yourself. If you’re in the presence of the anyone telling you they have to start a war, out something equally alarming, go up and try to pull their face off aka Mission Impossible. You can’t be too careful.

Most importantly, don’t risk your sanity watching the news or reading ‘The Truth’ on social media or in the papers. It will be probably be biased like a complicated knot wrong, both, or worse. Don’t believe the radical free thinkers either, they’re just the other side of the same coin, focussed on not believing.

If you meet someone who says “I honestly don’t have a clue” you’ve just met someone who is a) honest, b) knows that they don’t know what’s going on, and c) sane. Made them a friend for life. I’m one of them by the way. 🤣

If you’re not very careful you’ll land up believing that peoples of different colour can’t like each other (absolute bilge). Put me in a room with Idris Elba and I won’t be responsible for my actions! That the English think they’re superior (we don’t have time we have bills to pay). The England men’s football team will never win on penalties (only true so far). Or a black bra under a white top is a fashion statement!

Be careful out there! There’s crazy and there’s this world at the moment!

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
