Humour Sticks

Describe something you learned in high school.

I’ve said before that a teacher told my parents that she told the class jokes because she noticed that we recalled what made us laugh.

I thought that was pure genius. Enjoying learning, who’d a thought it?!

I don’t recall learning anything else that stands out in particular, but it was 50 years ago. School teaching now is far more interesting and dynamic. Of course the clever kids still get the main benefits.

Schooling is still all wrong though. We need personality assessments of children so that they go to a school that teaches in line with their natural talents.

We used to have technical schools in my youth, and you were sent to them if you were good at the sciences. It was a great idea. It was still ‘a pass’, equal to a grammar school, and meant that our schools provided a very useful and necessary start in some important requirements in our society.

I don’t want a PhD if the electrics have a glitch I want a life saving, house saving, memories saving, electrical expert. They are much to be respected and absolutely indispensable.

Or society needs so much that the over-trained people stumbling into work don’t have. We’re short of people working in key fields, what people call manual labour, and I call an absolute necessity.

Time to reset – stop worshipping the paper and letters, and start respecting the people who can put things right and keep us safe. Build houses. Light up our lives. Take care of the things we can’t.

That’s speaking as a person with two degrees, neither of which got me a decent job, but they did make me ‘over qualified’.

Can you imagine? Four years hard work and you’re told to take them off your CV or you’ll never get a job? I was crushed.

Oh, and to this day no one who doesn’t know me has ever noticed that I have two degrees, it doesn’t show. It made nothing better.

Your life is about how you think, the choices you make, and if you choose to be a person who believes in yourself. That’s the true magic and most powerful ability.

The message for young people – do work that makes you happy. It is out there! Believe in your dreams. Go for it.

Every single normal, nice, person deserves the best life and you won’t get that if you’re miserable for 40 hours a week. Do what you love and you’ll love what you do.

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
