What activities do you lose yourself in?
A range of possibilities
Sometimes meditation, sometimes my mind tenses up the moment I attempt it. That’s where the line in the poem ‘I Am’ comes from:
“I tense up calming down.”
I guess meditation shows you the underlying tension you carry. It’s wonderful when you can relax though.
With badminton I’m too busy trying not to get hit in the face with a shuttlecock. Or the leg with a bat (my bat). That and return it so that the game isn’t a case of:
‘missed…sorry…oops sorry…can I have my shuttlecock back…sorry…are you okay unattended child running along the back of my court when I missed that smash?!’
We play in a hall where there’s a trampolining session for children at one end. Mothers bring their toddlers and used to let them run riot. It took us about six months of complaining to get them to almost control the situation.
It appeared that only we truly cared about their kids.
I used to lose myself in writing, and that’s the single thing I miss the most.
Purring moments
Sometimes though, at night on the sofa or in bed, one of the cats will come and cuddle me. That’s when everything in the mental world comes right, my heart sings, my stomach relaxes. And all is right in my world. That’s my peace.

This is the aim!
