Abroad

Where would you go on a shopping spree?

I have no idea if shopping in other countries is as mind numbingly boring as it is in the UK, But I do know that a shopping spree won’t happen here.

Does mother know best?

Years ago my mother said exactly what I’m saying now. That clothes were boring, poor quality, badly fitting, and all the same.

I of course disagreed. The world was bright and new, I had a fantastic wardrobe, and the quality was great.

It was certainly a million times better than the shapeless rubbish in our shops now. It’s been going downhill for years but Brexit put the tin lid on it.

I think that saying refers to something like putting a lid on an old fashioned metal dustbin.

I notice now though that fewer young people run around in big giggling groups on a Saturday. Shopping has changed out of all recognition.

Life online

We shop on line You don’t get coffee, cake, and a laugh on line. Thank God for my sister! She’s social, she shops, and she knows that any shopping spree is 70% lunch, 20% coffee, tied together with great conversation and some giggles.

That true social connection was always a major part of shopping. You can’t connect to the search facility helping you to find a blue shirt, AI bots are very polite and remember to ask you how you are, but it’s not real.

Abroad

There’s one very good reason to go abroad. Even if the shopping is lousy the sky is different, the atmosphere is different, and you get to see new and amazing people and places.

If you come back without any shopping so what? You’ll have an entire mind full of new sights, sounds, and experiences.

I still trade on my Florida holiday 10 years later. I didn’t buy much in the way of clothes, but I brought back amazing memories and a great suitcase.

A memory gathering spree lasts forever. 💖

Where was your best holiday?

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
