You get to build your perfect space for reading and writing. What’s it like?
It would be cosy, welcoming, and uncluttered. It would have to look out over a garden but not have much of a view so that I didn’t spend hours looking at the sea, mountains, etc. No distractions.

If I can keep an eye on my cats while I work then I don’t have to keep popping down to check on them. That helps. The room would include a two seater Chesterfield sofa, and plenty of cat beds. I’m at my happiest when the cats are around.
The garden area would need to be interesting, but I don’t want a wide, clear view when I work. I want one that makes me daydream, that tweaks the imagination. Could there be fairies behind that bush? Who might come up that path any moment?
Writers need character and intrigue around them. That could as easily be a clean, clear, plain space that doesn’t disturb the mind into which you could visualise anything, a space to create a stage as it were. It could be a cluttered homely space with nooks and crannies. Whatever makes that writer feel at peace, able to daydream and set their mind free. Whatever frees their muse.
It should have a ‘no entry on pain of death’ sign. ‘Writer at work, enter at your peril.’ ‘Do NOT disturb the muse it gets crabby and throws things.’ Anything to protect the mind space.
Part of the reason I haven’t written anything significant in 10 years is that my train of thought was disturbed so many times that I only feel the muse in the briefest flashes. When I do it’s wonderful, but it doesn’t stay. Half of my inner writer is missing.
I still love writing though.
I would say to any writer that the other space you need is a WordPress Blog, and to religiously do the daily challenge. Not only does it make writing into a habit, but you read the work of other writers. International writers from so many different parts of the world. It’s fascinating.
Thank you WordPress.
Thank you every WordPress writer who reads my blog and gives it likes. It’s an honour to have other writers like my work. Your support is invaluable and deeply appreciated. You give me hope. I read as many blogs as I can, and you guys are GOOD you make me reach higher and work harder.
Let’s just all keeeep writing!
Reference to the ‘keeeeep dancing’ at the end of the UK version of Strictly Come Dancing.
In fact let’s dance too, music frees the muse.
Have a wonderful day.
