This is an old rhyming poem that I decided was worth a 21st Century revisit. I don’t normally go for rhyming now, but it seemed to me that the message within the poem was one worth repeating any time that you can, in any way that you can. Hope it inspires your best decisions.
Live Pin your star to the far horizon The better to follow your light For life is a series of small deceptions Balanced between wrong and right If your star exists at the end of your nose Then your horizon’s a narrow and dismal place Your world will consist of the ground at your feet And your possibilities stop at the end of your face Launch your feelings far and wide Treat your ideas like shooting stars Don’t limit your options to what they might do Follow opportunity’s knock no matter how far Limits as set by somebody else Will only detract from all you could be Restrictions imposed by the frightened or sad Will hamper your natural ability Do you really insist you are not what you are? Must you determinedly be so much less? Whose reality is it you’re fulfilling this way? Refusing to be at your best There isn’t a right Or a wrong Or a no Everyone has the right to ‘give it a go’ And those who do not have limited lives Lived in ‘if only’ and ‘maybes’ and whys? Will you do as I say? Will you give it a try? Or if I push you to change will you simple ask why? Will you have many reasons (none of them good) Why you’ll just keep on doing the things that you should? Look at it this way - just what could you gain? Plus failure to try could mean nothing but pain The loss will be yours The regrets could be massive Because you lived a life that was actively passive Just screw up your courage and open your mind Get out there and live life and see what you find Let those who are frightened cower indoors Don’t live their small lives Go out and live yours!
