Dear Google

What’s the most annoying trope in books or movies?

What is a trope?

I’m not a user of fancy words. Was the plot annoying? Yes I threw something at the TV!

Two films I did find annoying (Avatar 2) and exhausting (Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning).

Avatar was about the trope. MI was marred by the unrealistic number of times one man can hang off something ridiculously high. That or how long one human can realistically swim under water.

In Avatar 2 I found the constant violence undermined the equally beautiful and thought-provoking story line. In MI I felt that Tom Cruise (huge fan) could not possibly have survived that movie if he was real!

So now we know Tom Cruise is not real! Or maybe the filming was very good but unrealistic.

The plot limitations

Dear Google please remind me of the 7 plots available to writers!

  • Overcoming the monster
  • Rags to riches
  • The Quest
  • Voyage and Return
  • Tragedy
  • Comedy
  • Rebirth

There are other versions of this list, but it’s interesting to think how small the list is. Obviously if you mix the 7 subjects up then you have unimaginable levels of probability.

So are we the benefactors of endless creative opportunity? Or are we purveyors of the trope?

Obviously both. So I can’t be a wise mentor anymore because that lacks all creativity.

From now on I’m a crazy lady who shares her challenges to try to make the lives of others easier. That’s not fussy to read, right?

Or maybe a burned but still standing pig-headed, stubborn woman who refused to be beaten by unkind people?

I actually hope that I’m a kind mentor who just makes people feel a bit better, and helps them to cope. Kind mentor for short.

Best love

Amorah – Deb

P.S. I don’t like the word trope, it lacks all descriptive colour.

I'm a writer, public speaker, medium, and spiritual thinker. I suffered from acute anxiety from the age of 16 until I was well into my 50s, when I finally found methods that helped me to put it behind me. My struggles led to me exploring life through poetry, then plays, and over a 15 year period I made notes for a self help book which I published in 2015. Details on the book page. Although I am a psychic medium and loved the work, it didn’t feel right for me. It was an utter privilege, but my path was the exploration of what it means to be spirit in the real world and how we can make practical use of those abilities. Nowadays I write, blog, and teach soul-centred living, which is a gentle way of undoing past programming and connecting to your essential self, or soul. If you’re interested email me and we can chat. No pressure, it’s right for you or it’s not and you will know. The groups meet on line so no going out on cold, wet, winter’s evenings. On a personal note, I’m based in the UK. Married with five cats, no children, and four grandchildren, thanks to our inherited daughter, who has gifted us four beautiful little people that bring us such joy. Hope you enjoy the blogs. Deb xx
