What’s the oldest things you’re wearing today?

We bought my engagement ring in Hatton Garden in London in 1991, after an hour of walking between two shops trying to decide between a diamond ring and an aquamarine and diamond. The aquamarine lost and I still miss it.
We’d both got an idea in our heads as to the wedding rings we wanted, so a year later we toddled off to London again to find them. Not one thing we wanted in Hatton Garden. So, defeated we made our way back to Croydon.
Decided to pop into a local jewellers, I went to women’s and Tony went to the men’s section, almost immediately there were two shouts of ‘got it’.
Tony had visualised a ring made of intertwined yellow and white gold. There it was. I’d seen a ring in a dream that had a gentle curve at the top to sit around a round engagement ring. it appeared to have a double shank. Two rings stuck together as it were. There it was.
When I asked to see it the assistant said “that’s designed to sit around a ring like yours”.
They’ve been in place for 34 years in July.
We’re still stumbling along quite happily. Love and marriage/partnership isn’t easy, it’s not romantic, but I can still say 35 years after we met, I like him more than anyone else in the world.
Like isn’t romantic is it? No, but it’s far more real. You can love but not like someone, but if you genuinely, thoroughly, absolute like someone, that’s what lasts when the romance falls behind the demands of every life.
When the figure has gone, the face is lined, the hands are wrinkled, and only your jeans are holding your butt up!
He’s still beautiful to me and always will be.
There’s also a saying about us, upset one Hawken and watch the other because they’re coming for you. That’s love. Touch him and I won’t be responsible.
Best love
Amorah – Deb
