Caring for cats really is a sport.

Precursor
I wrote the text last night when I was struggling to care about the question. In other words I was completely uninspired.
It’s obviously full of love, gratitude for what they bring to our lives, and I hope their funny ways at least raise a small smile. Any smile is better than no smile.
Yet I was disappointed with the blog, I do these daily prompts to try and push myself. I went to sleep with a sense of dissatisfaction.
Yet now I think about it:
- I tried.
- I maintained my promise to myself to blog daily.
- I shared something nice not serious. Although Lily is very serious regarding her position.
- I didn’t give up because I felt flat and uninspired.
- I had been dealing with an upsetting situation where I feel at a bit of a loss as a dear person is really struggling at the moment. I shouldn’t be so hard on myself, writing this helped, and that’s enough. Take note on your not so stunning days.
- We can’t be brilliant all the time, I’ve just put a book by one of my go to authors down because 2/3 of the way through I didn’t care about the end. I’ll still buy his next book though. Why would I judge him for one book I personally didn’t enjoy?
- This is the first time in over 700 days I’ve felt that way about a question, which is pretty awesome.
- I should get over myself, the perfection quest was never mine to begin with, that was all my parents, all the past, and all too boring to bother with.
- I love my cats and writing about them feels good. Anything that feels good is a blessing.
- We writers should remember that every single effort builds our craft. Even when they’re not the best.
So…team Lily
In every cat household there is a head cat. In ours it’s the youngest and tiniest.
There is supposed to be a pecking order that the oldest cat rules the roost. Lily ignored this completely and took over when she was half the size of a small loaf of bread.
She is the most utterly determined cat we’ve ever had. Very clear what she wants, and completely adorable. She’s too sweet to be a bad leader, they’re in safe paws.
When we put food down she does a kind of slalom around the room, walking in front of the others and gently deflecting them so that she gets there first. Then she examines each bowl, chooses one, only then can they eat. The others are really good with her.
So the sport in question is the slalom.
Her team uniform is a variation on a theme.

Hito, our brown fluffy, is the guard cat. If something makes her nervous she will walk with him putting him between herself and whatever it is.

Nero was mummy cat, yes he’s a boy, but he mothered those kittens from the moment they arrived. She will often cuddle up with him in the wardrobe. He’s also brown.

Marcus is playmate and they charge around the house making a heck a racket. I think he’s head of fun. He’s black with brown highlights.

Mimzy, her sister, is garden playmate and second cuddler in command. Lily likes to have Mimzy close in case she needs help hunting wildlife – which is heavily frowned upon! Mimzy is white with black and brown markings.
So I guess my team is feline, they’re largely uncontrollable, too adorable for our own good, the dominant team colour is brown so that Lily stands out, and she is the manager.
We’re just there for cuddles, food delivery, and finding toys under things.
And we love it.
Best love – hope reading this made you smile or triggered good memories. That or, “thank goodness I’m not the only one in the paws of an adorable tyrant” (with the sweetest face that gets her everything she wants). 🤣🤣🤣😻😻😻
