What’s the oldest things you’re wearing today?
But then it is early morning in the UK, and it’s almost brand new.
Two of the oldest things I own are a pair of jeans and a jumper, both of which date back to pre 2000. About 1997 I think.
I also have a spectacular pair of jeans that I bought in 2000 that nearly fit me again.
Sadly, the boots I bought at the same time gave up the ghost 3 years ago. They had been reheeled so many times the balance was all wrong.
I can’t imagine anything nowadays, available to the non millionaire, that would last that long. The quality isn’t there anymore.
However, my piece de resistance (I love that French phrase) has to be my sequinned evening jacket purchased in 1991. I wore it last Christmas.
I’m also trying to get back into a pre 2000 evening dress, no luck so far, and it’s strappy so I’m not sure I’ll ever be warm enough to wear it. Especially as the shoestring straps are covered in crystals and you don’t want to cover them up.
My mum used to moan at the quality of clothing when I was young, saying it was very poor. I used to do the teenage eye rolling and “oh mother” thing. Subtext, “you’re so old fashioned”.
Sorry mum.
Take the advice of one who knows: never let go of good quality clothes that you love. You will regret it in the future. It’s also a good reason to stay in shape.
And the fashions will come back. I also got fed up with “wore that style 20 years ago” or “the heels of my platform sandals were seven colours like a rainbow!” I’m seeing all the fashions that my mum pre-wore, that I wore from the 70s onwards, come back. There are only so many new ideas and I haven’t seen one recently. 🤣
Happy Thursday
