I was interested in history from an early age, but always saw it as…well…history. Then I went to Bath Spa University to do English (which irritated me – long funny story) and Creative English (which it turned out I didn’t need), so I swapped to my elective, History.
The lights in life came on, the world was illuminated, I saw how easy world peace should be. Probably like most historians (and caring people) whether graduated or just interested, I’m sitting here screaming “look back to 1914 and 1939 and stop this stupidity right NOW!” They won’t though, because history is in the past and this is now.
Wrong…wrong…and what’s more…wrong!
A terrible warning
We’re supposed to look back into history to review what didn’t work and do better. That’s what it’s for.
If only there were two world wars (total wars because more innocents were killed than troops) behind us from which we could draw useful conclusions. I’m sorry but expect a level of infuriated sarcasm in this blog. I’m sure you completely understand.
The current situation baffles most people doesn’t it? Apart from thought leaders of a certain kind and their followers, and one or two world leaders, who exactly is it that want to see their children and other innocents killed? No one that’s who, other than those who have the least risk of dying because they’re the leaders and strategists.
How can we look at the number of graves in this world of those killed in conflict and not realise that we have to stop this. No war has ever been won. Victories have been accomplished at a cost that makes winning a disgusting word. Then moved past, and apparently rendered irrelevant.
Who still celebrates Alexander the Great? Who cares about the Roman Empire? It all passes with time and becomes an interesting story that should be that terrible warning. History certainly won’t venerate those for whom two world wars weren’t enough.
Wider history
Whether it’s international, national, or personal history, the only point of it is to use it to do better. To heal, to rebuild, to create a better internal or external environment.
We need to start revering the peacemakers, the ones that care about all the children everywhere. Who care about animals, the environment, food and fresh water for all.
History tells us that such people are very much needed.
For the planet
For the animals
For the children
Be noisy please. Everyone matters. Everyone has a right to live in peace and happiness.
Deb xx
Deb, very wise words. Every single heartbeat on this planet deserves a peaceful and fulfilling life. I wish I could see an end to all the hostility in the world. Sadly, I don’t thing that will happen in my lifetime. Look at Some of the world leaders, I will use Putin as an example; hidden safely in an underground bunker. These people are well protected. He is a sick man with a life threatening illness which, I can only imagine, a]has affected his reasoning and thought process. On the other hand, we have massacres such as the 16 people butchered in Maine, USA! Allegedly suffering from a mental illness. I wish I could come up with a solution. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Thank you. I’m at a loss, but so do I. I just don’t understand how world leaders think.
