How important is spirituality in your life?

Spirituality saved my sanity if not my life. Had I not had a mentor who saw the world in a different way I would never have found the path to recovery and the way to my true self.
I wasn’t raised in an emotionally healthy family. There was a phenomenal amount of sadness in the background and I now believe PTSD was a big factor.
Sadly, there was also a tremendous amount of jealousy, and some significant mental health issues. As you may imagine my generation didn’t have a hope.
Then I married a very troubled man, the full truth of which evolved after the marriage. He wasn’t physically violent but he had a ruthless way of attacking the mind. I found out years later that a member of my family had seen him and another colleague destroy someone’s mental health at work ‘for fun’, but didn’t like to interfere by mentioning it to me!!!
Enough of that
Moving on to the positives, I had a friend who was a hypnotherapist. When he was training I was a Guinea pig and I found the experience amazing, so it was natural that when I reached breaking point, I turned to him. Thank God I did.
God had always featured strongly in my life, not attached only to the church, but as an everyday support and guide. That energy never felt like a judge to me, more a strong, loving, nudge in the right direction.
For a while I moved away from that thinking, which only showed me how necessary a part of my life it was, and my spiritual training linked back beautifully.
The entire journey through discovery, psychic mediumship, practical spirituality for everyday living, to where I am now, has never excluded that God force energy, or Source. How can it? It appears in every aspect of our reality from the smile of a child, to the leaves on a tree, animals, pets, nature, and the miracle that is the universe. It’s the very building block of the universe present in every atom.
That’s me, my life, my way, and I would never try to influence or convince anyone else. The only thing I would say is that having something that lifts you out of the noise of this world, is a brilliant way to clear your mind and find yourself. I’ve found that people with a strong belief system often fare better.

I’m so glad that you were able to get out of those environments. It’s amazing that we don’t know how harmful they are until we leave- even if we think it’s bad, we see it’s much worse from the outside! It’s really cool that you took a chance on this person in training, I bet it benefited both of you. Thank you for sharing your story.

Thank you Jessie, it’s sadly incredible how many people understand this in various ways in life. It did benefit me certainly and I was so grateful. I’ve never found that the norm works as well. 🤣

I’ve just found a section containing unreplied comments, that I didn’t know existed. Things move fast on WordPress, and I’m learning more and more about how it works. So, thank you for this comment, and yes what you’ve put up with can be a shock, but also a testament to your strength. I was desperate at the time, I grabbed any and every straw. We certainly had a good friendship based on respect, and I hope I was a good friend. You’re welcome. I’m also catching up on following blogs so I’ll find yours eventually.
